  • Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)

Regulations

  • TRA requires the approval of radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment to comply with relevant technical specifications.
  • Labeling is required for telecommunication equipment.

Guidelines

  • A local representative is required.
  • Equipment is required to be registered with the TRA before it can be supplied in the UAE.

Applicable product categories

Electrical Safety

  • Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA)

Regulations

  • Under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS), registration of regulated products is required.
  • ESMA will issue an ECAS Registration Certificate for the product when conformity to the relevant standards is demonstrated.
  • Manufacturers may also request for the Emirates Quality Mark

Guidelines

  • Assessment, testing and evaluation of products should be conducted by ESMA or its recognised CABs.
  • Product sampling is required and must be conducted by ESMA authorised personnel.

  • The UAE Energy Efficiency Standards & Labeling Program (EESL) is supervised and managed by the ESMA (Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology), which is the authorised government agency responsible for the development of standards.

CERTIFICATION PROCEDURE

  • Submit application and testing report. The performance test report should be from an ISO 17025 certified laboratory.
  • Evaluation of Annual Energy Consumption (EER).
  • Equivalent star rating is assigned if the product meets the minimum requirements.

Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA)

Type Approval regime is a prerequisite for the approval of telecommunications equipment before being allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates as it aims to regulate the importation and sale of communications equipment in the United Arab Emirates through the dealers and suppliers accredited by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and by issuing certificates of type approval of equipment conforming to specifications required by the TRA, And the approval of the devices only after ascertaining the availability of all the specification and technical requirements.

Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) was Established as the sole Standardization Body in the UAE under the Law No. 28/2001. ESMA’s board is comprising representatives of the main parties involved in the standardization of the UAE. The Board is the dominant affairs and lay down its policy and adopting all the suitable procedures to ensure efficient performance to its assignments.
